Recording to Mix to Master | Audio Engineering Society (AES)
Another AES Germany Berlin event is just around the corner! This time, Ian Corbett and Maggie Luthar will be talking about mixing and mastering.
Ian Corbett will discuss recording and mixing a live jazz club project – including aesthetic goals, methodology, challenges and (hopefully) solutions; and how to turn a live, essentially acoustic project into an interesting recorded production, balancing faithfulness to the genre, with creativity and contemporary expectations.
Maggie Luthar will then talk about and present audio examples of her approach to mastering a project like this – goals, thought process, and processing used – as well as things to consider when mastering a high dynamic range album.
Dr. Ian Corbett is a professor and coordinator of the audio engineering program at Kansas City Kansas Community College. He also owns and operates off-beat-open-hats LLC, providing live sound reinforcement and location recording to mainly classical and jazz groups around the Kansas City area. As an author, his book “Mic It!” is in its second edition, published by Focal Press. www.offbeatopenhats.audio
Margaret ‘Maggie’ Luthar is a cutting engineer and mastering engineer in Los Angeles. Maggie cuts at The Lathe Room and masters music at a facility she operates with mastering engineer Ian Sefchick called Dark Sky Mastering.
